{"id":2407,"date":"2020-10-02T16:21:44","date_gmt":"2020-10-02T16:21:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/swagdotcom.wpenginepowered.com\/?p=2407"},"modified":"2022-12-07T20:13:32","modified_gmt":"2022-12-07T20:13:32","slug":"case-study-connecting-students-with-swag-at-alder-graduate-school-of-education","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/swag.com\/blog\/case-study-connecting-students-with-swag-at-alder-graduate-school-of-education","title":{"rendered":"Case Study: Connecting Students with Swag at Alder Graduate School of Education"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Recently, Swag.com had the opportunity to work with the <a href=\"https:\/\/aldergse.edu\/\">Alder Graduate School of Education<\/a>, a non-profit, higher education institute focused on training the next generation of teachers for the unique challenges of the K-12 classroom.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We talked to them about how 2020 has forced them to adapt their practices, and how they were using swag to help their students and faculty continue to feel a sense of community even while physically distant.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our team sat down to chat with Sophie Lo, a senior executive assistant at Alder GSE about the challenges of remote learning, the experience of using the Swag.com platform, and why small acts of empathy are so important in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Can you talk about what you do at Alder GSE?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>We provide a pipeline of teachers for under-served school systems (K-12) in CA. As a residency model, our students train at the school systems where they will likely be hired, so they are better equipped to make an impact and also stay long term. We\u2019re at 20 school partners this year; we\u2019ve doubled a lot in the last 10 years!<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We integrate practice and theory, and our students can earn a teaching credential as well as a Masters in one year while also teaching in classrooms; virtually, this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"358\" src=\"https:\/\/swag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/AlderGSEComp-1024x358.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2409\" data-full=\"https:\/\/swag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/AlderGSEComp.jpg\" data-full-size=\"3969x1389\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/AlderGSEComp-1024x358.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/swag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/AlderGSEComp-300x105.jpg 300w, https:\/\/swag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/AlderGSEComp-768x269.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 790px) 790px, 100vw,\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How has the move to virtual learning changed how you use swag to engage with incoming students?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Typically, we would hand out swag at our in-person courses, which were a few times a year, and at graduation. It would simply be, \u201chere\u2019s swag!\u201d from the directors and from the faculty members. We had to change that this year.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The need just kind of sprang up on us. Everybody was watching what was happening in January and through March. Then the shelter in place started. We had to think quickly. We were looking at different vendors that could package swag and distribute it for us. We also considered just putting everything together ourselves and packaging it ourselves, but that would have been a lot of extra work&#8230;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Swag.com was great because we couldn\u2019t find anything else that was a one-stop-shop. And made it easy for us to make a connection with our students and faculty.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What products did you choose to send out using Swag.com?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>T-shirts are one of the products that we used to give out, and I was happy to find out that Swag.com has plenty of t-shirts! That was the welcome gift for our current cohort. It\u2019s just nice to be able to send out something during this crazy time of 2020. It\u2019s something small, but it says, \u201cwe\u2019re thinking about you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The next thing we\u2019re doing is notebooks for our mentor teachers, for the same reason. We have a little thing that says, \u201cThis notebook belongs to an excellent mentor teacher surviving 2020.\u201d It\u2019s just a nice way to remind them that we care, and we understand what they\u2019re going through, especially during this tough year, being teachers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"263\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/swag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/ALDERGSE-263x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2410\" data-full=\"https:\/\/swag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/ALDERGSE.jpg\" data-full-size=\"542x618\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/ALDERGSE-263x300.jpg 263w, https:\/\/swag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/ALDERGSE.jpg 542w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 263px) 100vw, 263px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What was it like using our platform?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>In terms of labor, ease, and cost, I felt it was a top choice when it came to our needs. It\u2019s just a few clicks of the button on the swag.com platform. The t-shirts were easy to send out because the giveaway form allows individuals to choose sizes, and the swag platform tracks what needs to be backordered and reordered. That saved us, internally, hours and hours of just work trying to pivot from being in person and giving out swag and products to a more digitized version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It has made a big impact for us when we were trying to figure out <em>everything <\/em>else that had to be pivoted so quickly. It\u2019s just been something fun that I like to work on.
